Assessment of basic oxygen furnace slag applied to in-situ recycled asphalt concrete

Popis: | 98 The recent research shown that Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) slag was used displaced as aggregate for asphalt concrete materials, but never practical paving in the urban road in Taiwan. This study practical constructed four recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) in Kaohsiung County and China Steel Corporation plant, which used BOF slag as coarse aggregate of asphalt mixture. To observed the long-term pavement performance. Test pavement used recycled asphalt mixture with different substitution percentages of BOF slag, and estimated the asphalt pavement characterization including Marshell stability, resilient modulus, creep modulus, cooling gradient, flatness, rutting deformation. Test result shown that RAP performance were better with increase the BOF slag substitution percentage. This indicated that BOF slag could use in asphalt mixture effectively. Using vibration rolling mode could increase the compaction than used static rolling mode of RAP mixture with BOF slag. Air void content of RAP mixture with BOF slag were correlation with the rolling cycle and rolling mode. In addition, asphalt mixture with BOF slag could decrease cooling gradient. This indicated that BOF slag had heat retention effectively, to increase the transit time of asphalt mixture. And then increase the workability and pavement performance of asphalt mixture under high temperature conditions. |
