| Popis: | 98 The World Is Flat: a Brief History of the Twenty-First Century is an international bestseller written by Thomas L. Friedman describing the trends of globalization, primarily in the early 21st century. This thesis aims to illustrate different translation strategies and language usages in terms of their lexicon, sentence structures, and ways of expression used in two translations published in Taiwan and China. This research finds that because of the different levels of acceptance of English phonetics and meaning in the process of translating, the translation methods, naming principles and word choice of Taiwan and China are diversified; moreover, literal/free, semantic/communicative and domestication/ foreignization strategies are applied with various degrees by different translaters across the Taiwan Strait. From the viewpoint of sentence pattern, this reseach discovers that certain translation methods are employed. English sentence patterns are adapted to accommodate the way of Chinese. The translated text can reach the effect of communicative and semantic translation. On the aspect of choice of words, the study infers that Taiwan’s translation is affected by westernized expressions, Southern-Min dialect and other factors. Influenced by English, version of Mainland Chinese translation tends to use Europeanized phrases and multi-functional verbs. |
