Popis: | 98 Tourette syndrome (TS) is a chronic tic(s) disorder which occurs in childhood. Children with TS may have tic(s) many times per day, even many times per minute. Those sudden, fast and short voices or movements may have influence on their daily activities, and cause interaction barriers form children with TS. And, anger, depression, low self-esteem will appear afterward. Tourette syndrome is not a well known disease in Taiwan. Many children with TS are delayed to unaware their actual medical problem. The children with TS are easily mistreated or punished due to their strange. All of those increase physical, psychological and social stress for children with TS. The purposes of this study were to (1)develop an educational multimedia to reduce psycho-social stress in children with TS based on Social Learning Theory, and (2) to evaluate program effect. The content of multimedia education was base on Social Learning Theory. Quasi-experiment study design with control group was used to evaluate its effect. The intervention group had four-week group education with multimedia and control group did not have any intervention. Repeated measure ANOVA was used to compare the stress level at baseline (T0), 1st(T1), 3rd (T3)months between the groups. From November 2009 to January 2010, 22 and 43 children with TS were recruited for the intervention group and control group, respectively. In intervention group, the knowledge score about TS increased from 63.8 before intervention to 83.1 after intervention (p=0.002). Self- report stress reduced from 4.77 (range 0-10) to 3.12 (p=0.112). However the Stress Index for Children and Adolescent with Tourette Syndrome (SICATS) (intervention group: To=46.95, T1=46.59, T3=43.86 vs. control group: T0=43.70, T1=43, T3=42.14) and Daily Life Stress Scale (DLSS) (intervention group: T0=26.53, T1=27.77, T3=27.77 vs. control group: T0=26.91, T1=27.58, T3=29.14) did not show significant difference on baseline 1st, 3rd months between intervention and control group. We recommend that bigger sample size, longer follow-up, newly-diagnosed cases, more specific contents for different age groups may be helpful for the future study. We hope that our educational multimedia about TS can be used in clinical setting so that children with TS can know more about TS, get along well with their family, peer, and teacher, and reduce the psycho-social stress. |
