Due to the change of social structure, there is an increase rate of women with late-marriage and late-life pregnancy in Taiwan. The purpose of this study is to address how the media presents the associated issue regarding the risk of late-life pregnancy. It investigates the amount and content of the articles and further compares different presentation style through the newspapers and the years. The research subject is China Times (CT) and United Daily News from 1994 to 2009. There are 330 articles related to advanced maternal age. All sources are downloaded from the Internet. We use quantitative content analyses to analyze the content and presentation style of our subject. Findings from the descriptive analyses show that “pure news” is the primary presentation style of reports, “case reports” are the most common theme of the articles, “media reporters” are the most majority source of information. Additionally, most of the articles are written for the purpose of “ informing”, but the information quality is over relying on single source or lack of reference. The study clearly demonstrates the way how information presented in the articles regarding advanced maternal age of the two major newspapers. The findings can benefit journalists working in the field of health communication as a reference. In the future, we expect the news or article contain more complete references and include more diverse information from different perspectives, rather than just from physician. It will be definitely helpful for the readers to obtain a more comprehensive message; furthermore, it will also improve their cognition of the discussing issue and increase readers’ attention and the article’s reliability.
