Wear resistance of 7075 aluminum alloy by micro-arc oxidation

The aluminum ceramic coatings were prepared on 7075 Al alloy by Micro-arc Oxidation (MAO) technique. Parameters of the MAO coating process is multiplex. In this paper, the major coating parameters was the bipolar pulsed current. After the coating, we observe the surface morphology in SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) and discuss the mechanical property for coating Al alloy. The results show the surface morphology porosity will increase accompanied by the bipolar current density increase. The wear properties were tested by PLINT block-on-roller. when the current density condition is 1412 and 1414, the micro-hardness of the polished MAO process coating was 853 HV and 794 HV, and the wear resistance increased obviously.
