For the buyers and sellers who do the business for the first time in the international trade transactions, the use of Letter of Credit is an important paying instrument. The ICC Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credit is the rule for Letter of Credit, having being revised for several times since it was first promulgated in 1933. The sixth revision of the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credit(commonly called “UCP600”)takes effect on July 1st, 2007. It is essential knowledge for all the parties involving in international trade practice. As with other earlier revisions, the general objective was to address developments in the banking, transport and insurance industries. Additionally, there was a need to look at the language and style used in the UCP to remove wording that could lead to inconsistent application and interpretation. This study is to discuss in detail for the sixth revision of UCP. It analyzes the regulation of UCP600 and its application in actual operation in an effort to make all the parties involving in L/C transactions have more systematical understanding for UCP600. This study is expected to reduce the occurrence of discrepant documents and prevent the dispute in commercial transactions.
