Popis: | 97 The “Millet and His Times: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay “ Exhibition was held in May, 2008, by the cooperation between the National Museum of History and the United Daily News Group. As a very important event in summer vacations, the exhibition attracted more than 670,000 people during the period of about one hundred days. Most of the museums in the world do their best to be “people-centered “, however, blockbusters, like the Millet Exhibition, could be one kind which ignores the rights of visitors. Especially in the Millet Exhibition in 2008, the blockbuster is more similar to a kind of popular culture consumption activities in which the monetary income is much more important than its cultural achievement. Blockbusters, as museums, were born and developed in specific social context. According to the past researches, the personal actions, including media, museums or visitors, were causes of all kinds of problems from blockbusters. Actually, from the point of view of sociology, the personal ways could only show the personal difficulties without offering resolutions for the social problems. The thesis is a case study of the Millet Exhibition which is based on the concepts of the “New Museology” and sociology, and tries to use the idea of “social system” to reveal the real face and the operation of the exhibition. Especially through the semi-structured interview to show how visitors felt and to analyze their museum experiences, in the end, to think over the professional responsibility and the social role of the museum. According to the results, an unequal power structure exists in the social system of the Millet Exhibition. In the structure, the media played the most powerful role and make the visitors’ voices disappeared in the exhibition, the museum even keep the system continue to run stably which reflected the weakness of museum’s professional and social role. The thesis suggests, in order to change the unequal structure, the museum should be conscious of its responsibility, and enforce its social role. The most important thing is that museums are a cultural institution funded by the public whose core mission and goal is to take care of the rights and the experiences of their visitors. |
