The purpose of this study is to explore the inherent core of the mind – the state of “mindfulness” or the “space of consciousness,” and the different structures born of that core. Formed by the dynamic interaction between strong and weak emotions, and the worlds of reality and imagination, the mind is the design of both random and direct thought. At the same time, it is the product of the cohesion between intermittent thoughts and the stream of consciousness. This essay, Realization of Mental States – A Discourse on Self Expression, considers the research process of self expression from the perspective of actual experience. Moreover, after an analysis of the relevant literature on the subject, it explores and analyzes different forms of self expression, such as works of sculpture already completed by the author, and other real and imagined manifestations of form and content. This essay focuses primarily on the patterns of self expression. The study is based on the use of the head and the state of “mindfulness” and the images and expressions that they bring forth. Specifically, this essay seeks to tease out the differences in egoic expression, as well as the various needs and intents of the mind during all the different phases of life. By using linear measurements, two-dimensional images and three-dimensional shapes, and the overall appearance of the substances and materials used, we can express inner and outer forms. That is to say, we can use polymer resin representations to show the unique qualities of the “self” in its various stages – we can therefore bring physical expression to this abstract and intangible entity, and realize the goal of giving expression to the self.
