Popis: | 97 This research aimed to investigate the leisure types and leisure constraints of the immigrant brides’ and native children at elementary schools in Penghu County and to compare the differences in leisure types and leisure constraints of the children among different background variables. The study was conducted through a questionnaire survey. The subjects were 543 immigrant brides’ children and native children from grade four to six in Penghu County. The data were collected by a self-constructed questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, two-way ANOVA and structural equation modeling (SEM). The survey results are as follows. 1. The similarities between the immigrant brides’ and native children in Penghu County: (1) The leisure activities that the immigrant brides’ and native children in Penghu County participate in were mainly sporting and pleasure activities. (2) The immigrant brides’ and native children in Penghu County did not have as many overall constraints as structural constraints. (3) The boys tended to participate in physical and pleasure activities, while the girls tended to participate in static leisure activities. (4) There was a difference in the participation in sporting and pleasure activities between the pupils with different numbers of companions. (5) There was a significant positive correlation between maternal level of education and children’s overall leisure participation. (6) The pupils without any leisure companions and whose mothers were less proficient in Taiwanese had more interpersonal and structural constraints. (7) There was no significant difference in all types of leisure constraints between parental level of education and maternal proficiency in Mandarin. 2. The differences between the immigrant brides’ and native children in Penghu County: (1) The immigrant brides’ children in Magong City spent more time on pleasure activities than the native children in Magong City. (2) The native fourth grade pupils spent more time than the immigrant brides’ fourth grade pupils on knowledge and skill-related activities and overall leisure activities. (3) The extent of leisure participation in sporting leisure activities of the native children whose fathers held senior high school diplomas or university degrees was significantly greater than that of the immigrant brides’ children. (4) The extent of leisure participation in outdoor activities of the native children whose mothers were more proficient in Taiwanese was significantly greater than that of the immigrant brides’ children whose mothers were less proficient in Taiwanese. (5) The extent of leisure participation in pleasure, social and serving activities and overall leisure activities of the native children whose mothers were more proficient in Mandarin was significantly greater than that of the immigrant brides’ children whose mothers were less proficient in Mandarin. (6) The native male pupils had significantly more intrapersonal constraints than the immigrant brides’ female pupils did. (7) The native fourth grade pupils had more intrapersonal constraints than the immigrant brides’ sixth grade pupils did. The immigrant brides’ fourth grade pupils had more structural constraints than the native sixth grade pupils did. (8) There was a significant difference in intrapersonal, structural and overall constraints between pupils in Magong City and pupils in other districts. 3. According to the analysis of structural equation modeling, the more time for leisure activities the less leisure constraints. Suggestions were put forward on the basis of the previous stated findings as reference resources for elementary school students, their families and the schools. |
