The main purposes of this paper are to evaluate the Chinese translation of My Heartbeat and to analyze the involvement of theories and activities in the translational action. This paper is divided into six chapters, along with three appendices. The first chapter states the motive for and the structure of this paper. The second chapter gives a brief introduction to the author Garret Freymann-Weyr, a summary of this book on a chapter-by-chapter basis, an analysis of the original text in terms of age category, as well as a discussion in cultural adaption. The third chapter discusses André Lefevere’s theory and the publisher’s ideology resulted in the deletion in the Chinese version. The fourth chapter, forming the major part of this thesis, demonstrates the guiding strategies held by the translator and some helpful reference resources. In presentation, the original English text is coupled with its Chinese translation, and each strategy is backed up by scholastic opinions. The fifth chapter focuses on some practical aspects of the translation project, such as discussion with the client, the alternations of translation and an analysis of the translation errors. The sixth chapter sums up the findings and suggestions derived from the translating process.
