The subjects, including 60 students and 1 instructor, were in the elective course of “Applying Traditional Chinese Medicine in Nursing” in an occupational school in north Taiwan. The course was put in the second semester in 2008. The data were analyzed by the statistical software SPSS15.0, using the number of time, percentage, standard deviation, average, independent t test and Mann-Whitney U test. The interview content was transformed to the transcript before further analysis. Results of this study showed: (1) through taking the course, “Applying Traditional Chinese Medicine in Nursing”, the post-test average value of the cognition and affection test was obviously higher than the pre-test value. All of the students passed the skill exam, which suggested the course contents conformed to the course objective. And the other variables are not positively related with each other. (4) Among the differences of the course satisfaction in personal characteristics, there were three variables, the educational program, the age, and with or without nursing experience, revealed significant differences from each other. And the other variables are not positively related with each other. (5) The responses of objects were all positive. The course could provoke students to keep interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine. (6) The study results could help us to amend the course contents. Results of this study provided a reference for designing nursing courses on Traditional Chinese Medicine. Appropriate Traditional Chinese Medicine program is important for nursing students and will fulfill the public medical needs. It suggests the course should be set as an obligatory course and introduced to other nursing schools. That will also be helpful to evaluate the efficiency of applying Traditional Chinese Medicine in nursing care as well as the quality of nursing education and clinical practice.
