The Relationship Between Personalities and Knowledge Sharing ─ The Moderating Effects of Motivation System

According to the past researches and practical experiences, Knowledge sharing is the most significant obstacle when organizations implement knowledge management. However, the employee’s intention of sharing their knowledge to others is the key point of knowledge sharing. Review to the past relative literatures of knowledge sharing, scholars probe into the influential factors of knowledge sharing from multiple dimensions. Most of them focused on the discussions of technological dimension, but little was considered about social dimension. Therefore, based on the Expectancy Theory, this study adopts There Need Theory, Internal/External Locus of control and motivation system to explore the influential of employee’s intention of knowledge sharing between moderating effects of employee’s personalities and motivation system;moreover, we try to explain different institutions of reward and employee’s demand on the employee’s intention of knowledge sharing. Our results will give suggestions to the companies to draw up and develop management activities which will promote employees to share knowledge. This research objects focuses on the bank functionary in Taiwan. The results of our research indicate that employees with higher need for achievement and power in the Development-oriented motivation system tend to share their knowledge. Employees with higher need for affiliation in the livelihood-related motivation system tend to share their knowledge. Employees with internal locus of control in the livelihood-related motivation system will enhance sharing their knowledge.
