An Investigation Study on The Process of Training a Baseball Team in the east area of Taiwan (Hualien,Taidong and Ilan County) January,2009 Graduate Student:Chih,Chih-yuan Instructor:Dr.Wu,Kou-Hsien Abstract The purpose of this research was to better understand the process of training a baseball team in Hualien, Taidong and Ilan. This research used a quantitative model. The results of the research were based on the responses collected from three elementary school baseball training teams, three physical education administrators, and three baseball coaches from the cities of Hualien, Taidong, and Ilan. Questionnaires were used to investigate the junior baseball team training conditions in Eastern Taiwan. Out of 90 questionnaires sent, 84 were returned. The return rate was 93.33 percent. This research also used Kendall's coefficient of concordance,Independen Sample Test,One-Way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation to process and analyze the data. The conclusion of this research were as follows: 1) The basic information of the junior baseball training teams in Hualien, Taidong, and Ilan: there were five training centers in Ilan, sixteen in Hualien, twenty-one in Taidong; there were nineteen training centers in inner-city schools, nineteen in the remote districts, four in special remote districts; In terms of school size, there were twenty-two training teams in the schools with six regular classes, six training centers in the schools with six to twelve regular classes, nine training centers in the schools with twelve to twenty-four regular classes, and there were five training centers in the schools with over twenty-four regular classes. In terms of coaching resources, there were 48 regular teachers who were also part-time coaches. There were seven coaches who were hired from other schools. There were five coaches with various backgrounds. 2) The consideration and factors of junior baseball training teams in Hualien, Taidong, and Ilan: the resources were from the traditional teams in schools, regular teacher and coach and community members and parents. 3) The human resources of junior baseball training teams in Hualien, Taidong, and Ilan: most coaches were regular teachers who did not receive a special salary for coaching duties. Most players were volunteer students who registered by themselves. teachers and coaches had to train them and take care of their schoolwork and daily life. 4) The donations and resources of the junior baseball teams in Hualien, Taidong, and Ilan: most of the donations were from the special budget or from donations from private companies or individuals. 5) The obstacles of the junior baseball training teams in Hualien, Taidong, and Ilan: budget factors, player factors, parent factors. Conclusion This research reflected the current situation of the junior baseball training teams in Taidong in order to offer suggestions that can be referred to in future research for training new baseball teams.
