The Effects of Integrating Multiple Intelligences Theory into a Music Appreciation Course: A Study of Children's Music Learning Attitudes

Adopting a qualitative approach, this case study aimed to understand how integrating multiple intelligences theory into a music appreciation course affected the learning attitudes of six subjects, learners who were grouped as enthusiastic, moderate and passive in attitude, from the perspectives of cognition, affection, and behavior. The data were gathered from interviews, participant observations, teaching reflections, audio and video clips of peer discussion, and document collected. The results were concluded as follows. 1.The course created various similar and dissimilar influences on different groups of learners concerning their attitudes in music appreciation. 2.The moderate group benefited the most from the course with regard to enhancing their attitudes in music appreciation. 3.Among all three groups, the course had greater impact on boys’ music appreciation attitudes than girls’. 4.The subjects were more appealed to diversified activities of music appreciation than music appreciation. 5.The course inspired the subjects to apply intrapersonal and linguistic intelligences in learning. 6.The course had certain positive effects on improving the subjects’ attitudes in music learning.
