A study on gifted elementary school students' behavioral disturbances and teachers' corresponding counseling strategies

| Popis: | 97 The present study aims to investigate the correlation between gifted elementary school students’ behavioral disturbance and teachers’ corresponding counseling strategies. A questionnaire survey is conducted on the fourth-grade and sixth-grade gifted students with general intelligence and artistic talent as well as their teachers in eight counties/cities of central Taiwan. The valid data are 355 copies from students while 60 from teachers. The instruments are “Scale of Gifted Elementary School Students Behavioral Disturbance” and “Questionnaire of Teachers’ Counseling Strategies to Gifted Elementary School Students’ Behavioral Disturbance.” The statistic analysis is performed with Descriptive Statistics Analysis, independent samples t-test, and One-way ANOVA. Main findings of the study are summarized as follows: 1. Girls are more disturbed on self-concern and appearance than boys. 2. Students brought up in a single-parent or skipped-generation family are more disturbed on behavior than students living with both parents. 3. Students with strict or laissez-faire parents are more disturbed on family life than students with democratic parents. 4. Students whose teachers are strict or laissez-faire are more disturbed on studies and family life than students taught by democratic teachers. 5. Statistically significant differences are found in teachers of different ages on their counseling strategies in school and family counseling. 6. Statistically significant differences are found in teachers with different teaching experiences on their counseling strategies in school and family counseling. 7. Statistically significant differences are found in teachers teaching different types of classes on their counseling strategies in school counseling. Based on the study, suggestions are made for parents, teachers, school, society, and future study. |
