The purpose of this study is to probe into how to position Lin Yi-yun in Taiwanese literary history, which is evoked by Lao Shian-hao’s calling him “the final son of the Hsiang-tu Fiction”. In order to emphasize the great diversities in Lin’s works, this study first observes how Lin presents his life philosophy by using different writing skills and the way of esthetics. Chapter Two “ The Perspectives and Main Concerns in Lin’s Novels” deals with Lin’s attitude towards life and the existence of human being, these show in his using different visions when writing his works, all of these imply that Lin is concerned about human raise, though, keeping a distance from them at the same time. Chapter three “The Query and Boundary in Lin’s Novels” focuses on the vivid banter and sarcasm in his works, to see how Lin uses irony in the different perspectives. In addition, these perspectives are composed of the idea of ‘query’, so, the further step is to discuss the boundary he sets up for ‘query’. In chapter four “From Hsiang-tu Fictions to the Skill of Getaway in Lin’s fictions”, compared with the former Hsiang-tu Fictions in Taiwan, Lin tries to avoid the regular writing style, which is a problem happened in the latter period of the development of Hsiang-tu Fictions. Lin uses so many writing styles that present common people’s vitality and toughness, his special viewpoints and comedic attitude make him breaking out of the former Hsiang-tu Fictions. All of these features enrich Lin’s fictions and make them more meaningful.
