The fastener industry in Taiwan has become export-oriented and possessed well-constructed system of production and sale, and the countries to where our products are exported world-wide exceed 140 so far. In this research, an analysis on the U.S. market, which requires and consumes the most considerable fastenner products in the world, is presented first. According to the statistics, market share of Taiwan in the U.S. has been standing at the first position for years. In addition, the value of RCA index shows the excellent competitive advantage of Taiwan industry as well, while recently, there gradually emerges a threat under a circumstance of intense competition with China. The other maket analyzed is EU, which imports products mostly from China, though the value of RCA index of Taiwan is higher than that of China, our maket share in the EU is apparently falling far behind it. In the not-so-long future, the only way to enhance or maintain our competitiveness in both maket is to strengthen technology and quality. Among the global economic intergration, the “ASEAN+6” in Asia area catches the most attention for its members that includes many important countries of the world. Taiwan is excluded from the association and unable to benefit by the tariff preferential treatment, which leads to more intense competition and trade diversion effect, and there must be an unavoidable economic impact on Taiwan. After integrating maket and regional economy analysis, “Diamond Model” is used to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of Taiwan fastener industry in the international market: 1.Possess the ability of mass production, but lack for manpower of research and development. 2.Automation of process is superior, but process of surface treatment is inadequate. 3.Domestic demand grows in finitude, and over-focus the market for export on U.S. 4.Similarity of factories and products in the Asia area leads to intense competition. 5.Government is placing importance on the upgrades of industry and enterprises.
