FengXu is a Ci poet at the turn of the century--the end of the Qing Dynasty and in the early Republic of China when the political condition is critically unstable. The theme of FengXu centers on the periods of Late-Tang To Five-Dynasty Period and the North and South Suang Dynasty; meanwhile, he interprets through the perspective of his own era. Tracing the tradition and innovation are both of FengXu’s two dimensions. The thesis is based on Ci Hua, Ci Ji, On Poems and Five-character-quatrain and The selected ci poems, aiming to explore and analyze on the foundation of previous studies. First, the thesis explores the background and thoughts of FengXu; by analyzing the society and trend of late Qing Dynasty. Second, the thesis sets out to give an in-depth examination through the methods of ontology, the study of writers and anthologies, discussing the relationship of the three dimensions with an aim to constructing the feature and characteristics of FengXu’s Ci’s Theories. In the conclusion, the thesis argues how FengXu uses various critical literary forms as a means of promoting Ci’s scholarship and theory. Furthermore, FengXu establishes his status by his objective literary criticism, which is neutral and innovative. Therefore, FengXu certainly plays a significant role in the field of critics of late Qing Dynasty.
