Social enterprise differs from other forms of enterprise in that it gives higher priority to social value creation by means of catalyzing social change and/or catering to social needs than to value capture. Assessing social performance and impact is one of the greatest challenges for practitioners and researchers. Most venture capitalists evaluate their projects according to their experience or intuition. There is a need to have a systematic framework for project evaluation and selection. This thesis uses analytic network process ( ANP) for solving this problem. The ANP provides a thorough framework to include clusters of elements connected in any desired way to investigate the process of deriving ratio scales priorities from the distribution of influence among elements and among clusters. So far, it has proven itself to be a success when expert knowledge was used with it to predict sports outcomes, economic turns, business, social and political events. This thesis uses a Taiwan social venture capital firm as an example to illustrate the proposed methodology. The ANP model built in this research contains three main objectives— human, social value and business, and some criteria—entrepreneurship, team, service/product, market and finance. The model also includes complicate influences and feedbacks among clusters and elements. The result shows that it is suitable for applying ANP to the project selection of a social venture capital firm. The most important objective is human, and for criteria are entrepreneurship and team. In entrepreneurship cluster, self-awareness is the most important sub-criterion for project selection. Criteria under Social value and business are also discussed in this thesis.
