A new heterogeneous catalyst (powder 1) composed of copper and salicylic acid has been developedto catalyze the arylation of arylhalide with amines, amides and N-heterocyclic compounds in mild reaction conditions. In our initial screening experiments, iodobenzene and benzylamine were used as the prototypical substrates for discovery of suitable reaction conditions. The mild and efficient catalyst system is: 10 mg powder 1 as catalyst, Cs2CO3 as base, DMF as solvent, reacts 24 hours at 110℃ in oil bath to catalyzed cross-coupling reaction. Use of this catalyst also allows S-arylation of thiols with aryl iodides to take place in high yields. In this paper, there are several new copper complexes has been synthesized and characterized. Both of the complexes have been characterized by single ctystal X-ray.
