The optoelectronic properties such as light absorption, light emission, and mobility of semiconducting polymers are deeply affected by molecular arrangement or morphology. Among many other factors, aggregation of these polymer chains has the most profound effect on the resulting polymer morphology. With the introduction of Bulk Heterojunction (BHJ) concept in 1994, power conversion efficiency of polymer solar cell has been improved to 6.85% at this moment because BHJ morphology creates bi-continuous phase morphology between p-type materials and the n-type materials. Unfortunately, the desired bi- continuous phase morphology is unstable, especially during thermal treatment. In this study, we’ll use freeze-dry method to investigate aggregation behavior of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and construct a stable P3HT pore structure. In addition, effect of solvent, concentration, and aggregation time on morphology of P3HT will be also included. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) is used to monitor morphological change in P3HT. Aggregation behavior will be studied by UV-vis spectrometer and X-ray spectrometer. We found existence of a long - range ordered structure for P3HT by freeze-dry method. On the other hand, P3HT films created by spin-coating method showed only short - range ordered structure after thermal treatment
