Investigation of the Relationship between Confucianism and Thinking Model on the Leadership of Division One Intercollegiate Baseball Coach

| Popis: | 96 The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between Confucianism and thinking model on the leadership of division one intercollegiate baseball coach. This study selected five outstanding coaches, who presented as a coach on the Division one Intercollegiate Baseball Team from 2005 to 2007, as the research objects. Via qualitative research and interviews, five thinking models are found: the leadership behavior of coach, the value of coach, coach’s training and management style on players, the cohesion of players influenced by the leadership of coach, and relevant issues the coach faced with while managing the team. Based on the information gathered from interview and data analysis, conclusion were as follows: First, with situational leadership, the coach could be able to combine and adjust different types based on governing players by moral force. Second, as a baseball coach, he must emphasize his knowledge and improve human dignity. To govern people via moral and ethics was the first step on Confucianism for management. Despite of professional knowledge, enhancing intrinsic personality is also important. Third, communicating with public figures or groups is dependant on coach’s interpersonal relationship and reply skills. Benevolence is the core idea of Confucianism. It helps to build the vertical relationship on the concepts of loyal and filial obedience, and also the horizontal relationship of forbearance and justice. On the other hand, as for maintaining personal morality and interpersonal relationship, sincere, honest, and manner connect regimentation and regulation on the process of interchanging. Forth, it would be important to develop an adequate thought for baseball team management. For Mencius, kindness means to make the other party to agree with your opinion without argument. Confucian focused on the difference of individual. The idea of Confucianism enables individual to adjust himself, discover his own ability, and find his right position. By doing so, that will improve the group harmonious. Confucianism could be applied in the division one intercollegiate baseball team management. Therefore, various traditional thoughts could be practiced on other sport management. Fifth, a well-structured educational environment should be offered for players. This study talked not only about school learning, but also the moral issue. In the author’s viewpoint, multiple options of academic education should be conducted and then the players will have more alternatives and learning opportunity for their further study. They will not be narrowed in a certain range and their future will not be limited. |
