This study, primarily, examines the general situation and changing of male sex-role in the past eighteen-year Taiwanese newspapers, and pursuits the comparative research in the textual portrayal of men on the papers. Based on the diachronic and systematic data, this content analysis assays the male news in post prohibition of newspaper. This essay, first of all, found the involvement of public affairs is the mainest reason for male individuals to be the reported subject. Secondly, in the Taiwanese newspapers, the chief male image is the men in working. This shows the stereotype of men, the working men, has been standing firm for eighteen years. Thirdly, the family character of men is not important in reports. And male news in society section has lower objectivity as well as more negativity. Furthermore; the men in male news, mostly positively portrayed, is masculine sex-role characters. However, according to the analysis, the masculine characters have more negative evaluation then the feminine in the Taiwanese newspapers.
