A study of the aluminum alloy 7075-T651 surface finishing by ball-burnishing process

Popis: | 96 This paper used hardened AISI 52100 bearing steel as a tool for ball burnishing processes. In the burnishing process, as machining 7075- T651 Aluminum alloy work piece was burnished by the tool in order to get finishing surface. The ball burnishing is performed on a CNC turning center. The optimal parameters of surface roughness, roundness and hardness have been determined after conducting the Taguchi's L18 (matrix) experiments, respectively. Finally, the optimal burnishing parameters are obtained in accordance with multi-objective function. Experimental result shows that contact pressure is the most significant factors for surface roughness and lubricant is a significant factor for roundness and hardness. After burnishing processes, the surface roughness can achieve RZ=0.53 μm and Ra= 0.07 μm and its roundness and hardness can be improved over 30 %. From tribology concept, the best condition for burnishing process should be controlled under the boundary lubrication region. This research can help engineers acquire a satisfied surface for ball burnishing 7075- T651 aluminum alloy. |
