The Preparation and Properties of IPN-Structured Acrylte/Silica Hybrids in Dental Restorative Application

The epoxycyclehexyl group containing nanoscaled colloidal silica (ES),which was modified by the reaction of colloidal silica(CS) and 2-(3,4-Epoxycyclohexyl)ethyltrimethoxysilane,was mixed homogene- ously with bis-GMA/TEGDMA(w/w=7/3) resin(GT), photoinitiator (OPIA), and photosensitizer (CQ). The ES and (GT) components in the mixture underwent, rapidly cationic and free radical polymerization, simultaneously, to afford an nanoscaled acrylate/silica hybrid,GT/ES-IPN, with interpenetrating network (IPN) structure when exposed to halogen light (λmax=420nm). The morphology and properties were studied and compared to that of the corresponding hybrid such as GT/ES and GT/CS of non-IPN structure. As the result, GT/ES-IPN hybrids showed the low volume shrinkage, and great improvement in thermal,dynamic mechanic, and compression strength significantly than that of the GT/ES and GT/CS.
