The study on the role expectancy to ideal principals held by the public elementary school teachers in Taichung City

The objective of this study is to understand the role expectancy that the public elementary school teachers in Taichung city to ideal principals. First of all, the study established four dimensions and 30 indicators of ideal principals from literatures. The four dimensions are: character cultivation, education professional, service leadership, and research development. Then, the conducted questionnaires done by random 512 teachers of public elementary schools in Taichung city were collected. The collected data were processed by mean, standard deviation, descriptive statistics, Spearman rank correlation and Kendall’s coefficient of concordance. The results of the study are as follows: 1. The study based on the literature review summarized the four dimensions of ideal principals. They are character cultivation, education professional, service leadership, and research development. 2.Overall, the role expectancy of the public elementary school teachers to the ideal principals is a high level expectation. Also, the expectation is highly affirmed in four dimension. 3.Under different background variables, the role expectancy of the public elementary school teachers to the ideal principals is affirmative and concurrence in the majority of indicators of each dimension. There are difference in sorting of indicators in only few dimensions 4.Under different school background variables, the role expectancy of the public elementary school teachers to the ideal principals is affirmative and concurrence in the majority of indicators of each dimension. Finally, according to above-mentioned research conclusion, some suggestions were recommended as reference for educational agency, principal training preparation institution, principal and future research.
