Study on representative slope index of debris flow streams

The topography is extremely variation and fracture in Taiwan Debris flows are frequently induced by typhoon and heavy rainfall. Through study and field investigation, 249 debris flow streams and 249 non- debris flow streams are documented. 12 factors considering the properties of watershed and river channel of above streams are discussed in the study, including the factor of watershed area, watershed slope, form factor, mean elevation of watershed, mean slope of watershed, stream length, sinuosity, mean slope of stream, (ratio of)landslide area, hypsometric curve, geology, and length of fault. The representative factor of Landslide Susceptility Slope(LSS)are achieved for each geology region of Taiwan base on the according to slope distribution of existing landslide. The LSS substituted in every stream to obtain slope indexs of LSA and RLSA. Results shows that LSS for each geology regions are, region A ranges 17 and 39, region B ranges 19 and 50, region C ranges 19 and 47, region D ranges 18 and 47, region E ranges 17 and 47, region F ranges 16 and 33. Landslide slope indexs(LSA & RLSA)can well characterizing tnen the slope factor that watershed slope and mean slope of watershed. Last, as the equation of debris flow deposited volume by LSA is developed in the study.
