A Study of the Relationship between Principals' Ethical Leadership and Teachers' Organizational Citizenship Behavior in Elementary School

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between principals’ ethical leadership and teachers’ organizational citizenship behavior in the elementary school. In order to realize the purpose, the researcher adopted documentary research and questionnaire survey. A sample of 500 teachers of public elementary school in Kaohsiung City, Kaohsuiung County, and Pingtung County was selected. The scale included “The principals’ ethical leadership scale” and “The teachers’ organizational citizenship behavior scale”. The researcher analyzed the data collected from the questionnaires with descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation and multiple stepwise regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The achievement ethical leadership for principals and the performance of organizational citizenship behavior for teachers showed medium-high degree in elementary school. 2. The senior teachers realized more that the principals performed the caring ethics of ethical leadership. 3. The senior teachers who services in the large-sized schools at Kaohsiung City showed medium-high degree on organizational citizenship behavior. 4. The higher degreed the teacher aware the principals’ ethical leadership, the better the teacher perform on organizational citizenship behavior. The achievement of utilitarian ethics and critique ethics for principals has influence on teachers’ organizational citizenship behavior. Finally according to the results of this study, some suggestions were proposed for the principles and teachers in the elementary school.
