Popis: | 96 Nutrients play an important role in controlling primary productivity in coastal ecosystems. In order to understand the effects of nutrients on the temporal and spatial variability of phytoplankton in the coastal water of Kenting, we conducted a monthly investigation on the surface seawater of tidal and subtidal areas. The results from Three-way ANOVA analysis showed that chlorophyll a, phytoplankton abundance and primary productivity had significant temporal and spatial variability. Multidimensional scaling results also showed temporal and spatial variability in phytoplankton community. During dry season, diatom or Trichodesmium spp. was the dominant community. But during wet season, diatom, Trichodesmium spp. or Dinophyta may be the dominant community. The phytoplankton community in Siao Wan during wet season was significantly different from other stations, especially in July and September. Dissolved oxygen, ammonia and nitrite concentrations showed significant temporal and spatial variability. The salinity, nitrate, silicate and phosphate concentrations varied temporally but not spatially. The results from principle component analysis showed temporal and spatial variability of water quality in the coastal water of Kenting, pointing to the major source of nutrients from the terrestrial runoff and rainfall. Both tidal and subtidal areas were affected by runoff, but the differences between the two areas became more distinct during wet season. The results from regression analysis showed the correlation between water quality and phytoplankton abundance during dry season, and it could account for about 30 % of the variations. However, it only could account for less than 10 % of the variations during wet season. These results suggested that water quality was just part of the factors influencing phytoplankton community. The results of cluster analysis showed there were similarities such as chlorophyll a and water quality among 6 stations except Siao Wan. Wan Li Tong was grouped with Siang Jiao Wan, Hou Bi Hu was grouped with Tiao Shih, and Outlet was grouped with Inlet. In conclusion, the coastal water of Kenting was affected by dry and wet season, and both tidal and subtidal areas were affected by runoff. Siao Wan was distinguished from others in water quality, chlorophyll a concentration and phytoplankton community during wet season. |
