Relationship between Body Image, Leisure Constraints and Leisure Self-Efficacy of Adolescents: With Study in the Moderating Effect of Gender

Popis: | 96 Adolescence is a time of physical changes which in turn has an impact on psychological development. It makes adolescents care about their body shape too much, changing their body image, and then influence adolescent joining leisure activities and adolescents’ confidence. Therefore, how to improve adolescents’ body image and promote adolescents’ leisure self-efficacy is important to their parents and social. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of body image on leisure constraints and leisure self-efficacy. Furthermore, this study contained gender as a moderator to examine the moderating effect on the relationship between body image, leisure constraints and leisure self-efficacy. A survey was conducted on junior and senior high schools selected from in northern, central, southern and eastern Taiwan. First, we contacted the schools and explained the research questions and purpose, and asking for willing assistant this study. Second, we sent questionnaires to schools which with willing to assistant this study. Finally, the total number of delivered questionnaires is 960, and there is a total of 796 valid questionnaires and the valid response rate is 93.32%. The results of this study suggest that belief about appearance of body image has negative and significant direct effects on leisure constraints. Moreover, contour drawing rating and belief about appearance of body image have negative and significant direct effects on leisure self-efficacy, and leisure constraints also have negative and significant direct effects on leisure self-efficacy. Furthermore, the result of this study also find that gender has moderating effect on the relationship between, belief about appearance of body image, leisure constraints and leisure self-efficacy, and female has significant moderating effect on the relationship than male. |
