The Effect of New Wind-Force Regulations on Greenhouse Structure in Taiwan

Since the greenhouses in Taiwan generally adopt the cold-rolled steel as the constructive material, they are lighter then the general buildings and are more easily influenced by wind force. Therefore, this study imitated greenhouse, and utilized the analysis software to investigate the influence of the old and new wind-force standards on the structure of greenhouses, providing reference for the relevant industry. Under greenhouse structure and specification used in this study, the wind-fore standard had higher wind-resistant wind speed, 1 m/s greater then the wind-resistance-design standard. The difference of both is less than one wind scale number. For the nine supporting combinations, the difference between the maximum and minimum wind-resistant strengths is about two wind scale number. While for the greenhouse, solid round steel and steel tube, both having the same outer diameters, are used as the truss beam steel bars. The weight of the latter is 69% less than the former, but it can with stand two times stress that the former can do.
