Adaptive Error Control for Video-on-Demand Broadcasting in Wireless Networks

| Popis: | 96 With rapid development and wide deployment of wireless networks, wireless multimedia applications gradually play an important role. However, it is still challenging to provide wireless Video-on-Demand (VoD), a key wireless multimedia application. There are three main reasons. First, wireless networks have very limited bandwidth, as compared to wired networks. To overcome this problem, many studies employ VoD broadcasting protocols. Secondly, the bit error rate (BER) of wireless networks is very high, which needs a robust error control scheme. Thirdly, the heterogeneity of clients is high, which, as part of the reason, results in the development of scalable video coding (SVC). In this paper, we combine VoD broadcasting protocols and SVC, and then proposed an FEC-based error control scheme for wireless VoD services. According to our simulation results, the proposed error control scheme can significantly improve the perceived video quality of clients. |
