Popis: | 96 Background: SSRI-class antidepressant drugs are widely used in the treatment of major depression, the propotye SSRI drug, fluoxetine, is commonly used. This study explored the efficacy of fluoxetine in major depression with different neuropsychological traits, especially in psychomotor speed slowing. Method: Forty patients, meeting DSM-IV criteria for major depression, were treated with fluoxetine for 8 weeks. They received neuropsychological testing before and after treatment. Thirty completed the trial and post-treatment neuropsychological testing. Result: Comparing the 15 patients who had high deficit of psychomotor speed against, the 15 patients who had low deficit of psychomotor speed exhibited poorer improvement in executive function, psychomotor speed and attention. Conclusion: The efficacy of fluoxetine was specific to severity of psychomotor deficit. In Major Depression, fluoxetine is more effective in the patients with high deficit than those with low deficit in psychomotor speed. The high deficit group may possess unique etiology related to the low deficit group. |
