Design evaluation and product pricing for new products are two essential tasks at the early stage of developing new product of medium-sized and small-sized TFT-LCD. However, the competitiveness of product development is declined due to the difficulties in the searching relevant technical data of components. Since, it always spends huge time and manpower. One reason of this circumstance is that the information about the specification and price of parts provided by current database often fail to meet the needs for new product development. Yet, redesigning new components takes time and is uneconomic. Moreover, plenty data of out-of-date components make the entire database too bulky to search useful data. This research is to develop a quick-response design platform, which is constructed by data integration, for product development. It hops to improve the efficiency of product development. The approach firstly applies the principle of modularization to analyze technical data of components stored in two major development resources which are current product development platform and development technical database. Then, technical data is updated and the redundant and out-of-date data were also removed from technical database. Components were sorted according to their technology capability and then were classified as requirements for short-term, mid-term, and long-term development which enables engineers to quick access appropriate data. The technical data of components were integrated into Product Lifecycle Management System (PLMS) by using the logical of Part BOM (Bill of Materials). Finally, the entire technical database was reorganized to increase efficiency. This research also includes a case study to demonstrate the implementation of the approach. In practice, the platform provides convenience for product development by just enter Part BOM of designs. The proposed design platform is believed to provide better solutions for design evaluation and product pricing of new product development. In addition, information about technical resources and knowledge of new technology could be shared by product engineers through the proposed design platform.
