In Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) networks, the system performance is critically affected by the selection of Mobile Anchor Points(MAPs) and its load status. So we propose a novel scheme to improve these two problems. An abstract Mobile Anchor Point selection mechanism is proposed to broaden the service range of MAP. In the meantime a seamless handoff method, SHMIP(Stealth-timeHMIP) is given to reduce the handoff latency. In the first scheme, we propose a MAP selection mechanism that takes the mobile node’s particular characteristics including the mobility velocity of communication services into consideration. This method applies Abstract MAP to the original MAP domain, that also can reduce the packets exchange between Correspondent Node (CN) and Home Agent(HA) due to macro movement. In the second scheme, we consider handover operations. We analyze the handoff delay and find that the DAD (Duplicated Address Detection) time represents a large portion of handoff delay. By this way, we propose a method which can utilize the DAD checking time on the handoff delay and, thus, reduce the handoff time significantly. The contributions in this thesis are as follows: (1) We consider not only loading balance but also reduce packets loss. (2) Improvement of the handoff performance, since local handovers are realized in a local manner.
