The Study of Content and Interactivity of Candidates' Blogs—Taking the Example of Taiwan's 2008 Legislative Election

Popis: | 96 This study aims to understand the 7th legislative candidates how to manipulate blogs in Taiwan 2008. Research questions including they use blogs to convey what information, use what appealing strategies in their articles, and the interaction between them and the voters. Based on three types of interaction in blogs McMillian(2002)addressed, including User-to-system, user-to-user, and user-to-document. This study investigated the 107 legislative candidates, their blogs, and the 2163 articles in their blogs by Content Analysis, so as to fully comprehend the blogs of candidate in Taiwan. Findings indicate that 25% candidates establish blogs to market themselves, and most of them are in majority and megalopolis. But only 79.4% blogs reside in the effective blogs, their degree of abundance of political information are quite low, only six blogs exceed 0.5. The information of blogs are not diversified, the articles of news related to the candidates and attacking the competitors are in the majority;except for rational appeal, negative appeals are accounted for 19%. Both of above-mentioned findings show that the blog becomes the battleground of negative campaign. In the interaction, 44.1% comments belongs to interactive communication, shows that the blog provides the better interaction to;even so, the reactions of the candidates and their elective group still can make lots of progress. The candidates don’t make good use of advantages of the new interactive communication technology to improve the political communication process between them and the voters. Besides, the age, level of education, party, precinct, challenger or incumbent, and the elective resources all affect the interaction of the candidates’ blogs. Finally, discussed the limits of this study, suggestions of the future studies on the interactivity of the blog, and giving some advices to the candidates and their elective groups. |
