Popis: | 96 The reason that many college students keep taking unhealthy sleep patterns to cope with the environmental demands may be due to the lack of sleep knowledge. This study aims to investigate the relationship between sleep education, sleep knowledge and sleep behavior. The participants were college students who took a course named “ Realize Your Sleep” (SE) or who took a basic psychology course (NE), and all of them filled out the questionnaires twice, in the third week of the semester and at the end of the semester. There were seven questionnaires studied including the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Daily Schedule Scale, Coping Strategy Inventory, Emotional inventory, Profile of Mood State, and Sleep Knowledge Test. Sleep knowledge Test includes 20 Yes/No questions written in Chinese. The questions of the test were chosen from the previous version according to the criteria of difficulty, discriminability, and relevance to the content of “ Realize Your Sleep”. We found that the mean test score of sleep knowledge was higher at the end than in the beginning of the semester in both groups. However, the participants kept most of their sleep behavior unchanged, and they showed more negative mood at the end of the semester. It was assumed that final exam-related stress confounded these results because that the test day at the end of the semester was very close to the period of the final examination. Why students chose to maintain sleep pattern to cope with academic or environmental pressures still needs further researches. |
