A Study on Supply and Needs of Support Services for Elementary School Resource Room Teachers in Taipei City

The objective of this study is to understand that support service expectative need and acquisition in reality of resource room teachers in elementary school of Taipei city. We divided into 3 categories of support services such like administrative, assessment, and teaching support service for advanced study. Moreover, we also discuss the differences between needs and supplies, and the significant phenomenon under alternative individual background and environment. According to 197 valid retrieved questionnaires named “A Study on Supplies and Needs of Support Services for Elementary School Resource Room Teachers”, our statistic analysis suggested by mean, standard deviation, t-test, and one-way ANOVA. Then, we conclude below, 1. The results of need support service show “desirous” to resource room teachers in elementary school of Taipei city. The prior need is “administrative support service”, then teaching support service, and assessment support service. 2. The results of supply support service show “sometimes” to resource room teachers in elementary school of Taipei city. The noticeable supply was “assessment support service”, then administrative support service and teaching support service. 3. Support services in reality they obtain are significantly much less than how much resource room teachers expect in elementary school of Taipei city. It reveals that the desires of teachers are high “thirsty” while the supply is “sometimes” available. The unbalanced condition of supply and need shows that teaching support service is the worst, then administrative and assessment support service. 4. The administrative support service is more desirous in larger school. The need of administrative support service of two and more resource room classes is more than one requires. Also, in terms of “years of founded resource room”, elders gain more in practice. 5. Other variables for instance, gender or seniority of teachers, numbers of students in resource room, whether school set up other special class, there is no remarkable difference in expectative need. That means supply and need are tend to be uncorrelated to these four variables. 6. According to this study, the results refer five items with largest difference between need and supply of support services. Here we give some comments for authorities concern, a. The genearch could well-cooperate with school teaching, and continuously conduct with student. b. The genearch would offer the necessarily relative data, for instance, approval of parents, medical diagnosis for evaluation. c. Teachers of general class should adjust lessons or teaching for disabled students. d. Bureau of education set up support system. If there is problem or controversy to resource room teacher, the support system should give the way of pleading or ask for help. e. Authorities of education provide semi-permanent psychologists in school.
