The development of compact antennas plays an important role in rapidly growing mobile communication market, recently. This paper presents a novel design technique of the quad-band small internal antenna which covers GSM-900(Global System for Mobil Communication,bandwidth:880~960 MHz)、DCS-1800(Digital communication system,bandwidth:1710~1880 MHz)、 PCS-1900(Personal Communication Services,bandwidth:1850~1990 MHz)、IMT-2000(Integration of Mobile and Fixed Network,bandwidth:1920~2170 MHz). The handset antenna is developed within the limits of a volume. This proposed antenna describes a new idea of increasing operational bandwidth for the compact planar inverted F antenna (PIFA). The proposed idea introduces the open-end slots in the ground plane to excitation new mode for increasing operational bandwidth. The propose method with defect ground structure (DGS). The open-end slots almost all under the radiating patch. The size reduction method is attractive from the point of view of practical antenna implementation.
