Popis: | 95 The importance of education is well understood and elementary school teachers, who are standing on the front line of education, are carrying an immense mission regarding its quality. Teachers’ professional competency attracts great attention regarding what items and contents should be included in and if there are differences of professional competency among various teacher cultivation systems. These are the subjects requiring an investigation. The discussion about teachers’ quality and the differentiation of their professional competency is also essential especially at a time when all teachers’ schools are facing a turning point for transformation due to the surplus of teacher preparation. This study applied the methods of literature review and questionnaire survey; firstly, the definition and category of teacher’s profession were sorted out, then measures were established through reviewing related papers to evaluate the differentiation of professional competency under different teacher cultivation systems. In terms of the actual investigation, this study tried to find out whether differences exist within the six professional competencies, namely, “professional knowledge,” “professional autonomy,” “professional ethics,” “professional services,” “professional growth” and “professional organizational abilities” from teachers cultivated out of the four cultivation systems which this study had divided, namely, “education department in general university”, “teachers’ college”, “postgraduate teacher education program” and “teacher cultivation program in general university.” Then the six professional competencies mentioned above were further broken down to 31 items analyzed one by one to see whether differences exist. A further analysis was conducted with the background data of interviewees in order to understand whether the differentiation of teachers’ professional competency under various teacher cultivation systems truly exists. The research results indicated that there is indeed a significant differentiation existing in teachers under different cultivation systems in terms of their six professional competencies summarized above. Most of the analyses affirmed the performance of professional competency in “teachers’ college” except a few items such as the “ability to handle and apply information technology” in the category of “professional knowledge.” The results showed clearly that the performance of teachers’ professional competency in teachers’ college is better than other teacher training institutes. Viewing these results, this study also proposed recommendations for improvement. Finally, this study considers that education is the foundation of a nation. Whether teacher training institutes are able to cultivate teachers with professional competency is crucial to the success or failure of elementary school education. Therefore, raising the quality of teacher training institutes will definitely affect the enhancement of teachers’ professional competency and in return raise the quality of the nation’s population. |
