The discipline of World Music was developed from Ethnomusicology. The field was first focused on the traditional music outside Europe and has been extended and now covers all kinds of traditional music, folk music and popular music made by all races around the world, including Europe. World Music is a new discipline, and its related terms and content are not yet well defined. The studies of the emphasis, development and tendency of World Music are essential issues for the music educators in junior high schools. This thesis first introduced the origin, educational tendency and material classification of world music and the educational materials used in junior high schools. In addition, the thesis analyzed world music from the two difference points of views: distinct areas of culture and music characteristics. The music of Lullaby in the areas of various cultures, for example, was studied for educational materials in junior high schools. Furthermore, the educational material of combining world music with popular music has also been studied. The work of this thesis provides more useful references for educational materials in the field of world music for the teachers and educators in junior high schools.
