The Olympians' Training Development and Transformation Process in Taiwan

The purpose of this study was to investigate that the issues of Olympians’ career plan development after their active competitive lives. The qualitative research method was applied as approach and the in-deep interview was used to collect the data. There were four Olympians who treated as subjects and the major findings were as follows: 1. The development process of Olympians’ competitive career: there was three-fourth to Olympians joined in athletic training by their parents and only one was influenced by his peer group. The most effort stage of their training were varied with one in primary school stage, one in junior middle school stage and two in high school stage. 2. The variation process of Olympians’ training: all subjects had positive attitude towards their training and the psychological preparation, they had the attitudes of self-confidence, willpower, self-insistency, self-responsibility, self-challenge to face stress during competition. The coaches’ interaction was spiritual education, self-training, goal setting and implementation. 3. The Olympians’ adjustment to their retirement and their career plan: there was three-fourths of Olympians, their attitude towards retirement took as it came, and the motivation of retirement was to develop the secondary professional ability, increasing vision, continuing education and life-long learning. In the phase of career plan was to improve the quality of life and economic wellness. In general, Olympians expected that the government pays mort attention to their well beings after their retirement from competition and provide more practical support and assistance to solve their future problems, so they can concentrate with their best in their competitions without worry about their future.
