A D-type optical fiber sensor based on the attenuated total reflection (ATR) effect and spectrum technique at a specific incident angle(89°) is presented. It is coated with an Au-film to detect the refractive variation by measuring the output spectrum. 1. Calculate the reflectance ratio of the specimen to water could look out for the resonant wavelength and the refractive index. The proposed method is used to enhance the measurement sensitivity and achieve the resolution better than 10−5 (RIU). Resolution of the OSA is 0.01 nm. 2. An application of D-type optical fiber sensor in the temperature measurement is proposed. The sensor based on surface plasmon resonance could be like as a probe to sense the liquid or gas temperature in real-time. We use the optical spectrum method to analyze and record the temperature. It has some merits, such as, simple, high sensitivity, and in vivo test. The spectrum method measured at a specific incident angle would enhance the sensitivity was demonstrated. It is very useful in applications of chemical, physical or biological measurements. Keywords: surface plasmon resonance (SPR), optical fiber sensor (OFS)
