The Investigation of Test Accommodations for Students with Disabilities from Opinions and Practice of General Education Teachers of Junior High and Elementary Schools in Tainan City, Tainan Country and Kaohsiung City

The study aims at the discussion from test accommodations for students with disabilities from opinions, practice and difficulties of the general education teachers of junior high and elementary schools in Tainan city, Tainan country and Kaohsiung city. By post the researcher use self-edited questionnaires of the general education teachers’ opinions in junior high and elementary schools about test accommodations for students with disabilities. The total figure of questionnaires are 638, and the valid samples are 531, so the returning rate is 83.2%. The data analysis is carried out by frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and χ2. The important findings in the study are as following: 1. The general education teachers’ attitude in junior high and elementary schools about test accommodations for students with disabilities tends to active and positive. 2. The general education teachers’ partial opinions in junior high and elementary schools about test accommodations for students with disabilities are different by gender, age, teaching experience, and grades they teach. 3. In the aspect of the general education teachers’ practice in junior high and elementary schools about test accommodations for students with disabilities, the average practice rate is apparently low. 4. The general education teachers’ partial practice in junior high and elementary schools about test accommodations for students with disabilities is different by gender, age, teaching experience, grades they teach, location they teach, professional background of special education and handicapped types of students with disabilities. 5. In the aspect of the general education teachers’ practice in junior high and elementary schools about test accommodations for students with disabilities, there are only 2.6% of the teachers indicate that they have never confronted difficulties, which means the majority of the teachers express to have suffered difficulties. The most difficult aspect is to allow students with disabilities to use the displaced way to answer. 6. In the aspect of the general education teachers’ suggestion in junior high and elementary schools about test accommodations for students with disabilities, providing the proper method of test accommodations by the ability of students with disabilities is the majority. The result of the study provides variously concrete suggestions to educational agencies, schools, teachers in general classes and resource classes, and future study.
