Study on Cytotoxicity of Chlorine Containing Solid Wastes

Wastes may produce harmful substances, due to environmental changes and thus harm to the environment, ecosystem and human health. This study treated two chlorine-containing wastes, polyvinyl chloride by heat and the exhaust gas were adsorbed sequentially by water; treated ash by toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP) test. We have studied the chemical compositions on samples and it's cytotoxicity. Cytotoxicity was exaimed by Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cell, three Animal's kidney cell and INT assay and understand the relationship between chemical compositions and cytotoxicity response. Results show that increasing the Total Organic Carbon (TOC) content in absorbate, to reduce the cytotoxicity; while cytotoxicity of absorbates are perportional to the content of free chlorine. In the care of baghouse ash and scrubblr residue, In the contrant, the coytotoxicity of the TCLP extract of scrubber residue are mainly contributed from Cr、Cd and Sn ions. Increasing the Pb and alkali ion contents in baghouse ash is to increase the cytotoxicity of TCLP extrast of these ashes.
