A Study on Leisure Participation, Leisure Attitude and Leisure Constraint of Junior High School Students in Pingtung County

The purpose of the study was to explore the conditions of junior high school students’ leisure participations in Pingtung County and also to analyze the differences among different students’ background factors in leisure activity participations, leisure attitudes and leisure constraints. This study adopted questionnaire survey. Stratified Random Sampling was applied in this study- junior high school students in Pingtung County were surveyed and a total of 824 effective samples were obtained. T-test and one-way ANOVA were used for data analysis. The results are as follows: I. The leisure activities that junior high school students in Pingtung County participate in most is the “amusement type.” And the following are the social type, sport type, knowledge-culture type, outdoor-activity type and skill type. The first five leisure participations of junior high school students in Pingtung County are watching TV, listening to the radio, surfing the net, chatting and riding bikes; the lowest frequent ones are playing pool, doing martial art, skateboarding, writing calligraphy and roller-blading. II. The differences between leisure participations and junior high school students’ different background factors are following: 1. In the variables of gender, cram school going, grade, school type, parents’ career and allowance of junior high school students in Pingtung County, the leisure participations differ. 2. In the variables of gender, cram school going, grade, school type, parents’ career and allowance of junior high school students in Pingtung County, the leisure attitudes differ. 3. In the variables of gender, grade, school type, and parents’ career of junior high school students in Pingtung County, the leisure constraints differ. III. Leisure participations and leisure attitudes are positively related, and the better the leisure attitudes are, the more the students participate in the leisure activities; leisure participations and leisure constraints are positively related; leisure attitudes and leisure constraints are not related.
