RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) combines automatic identification and radio frequency communication technologies and has wide applications. Recently, a novel and interesting application of RFID was a banknote attached the tag to determine the authenticity of money and to stop counterfeits. This research originated from that Europe government plans to embed RFID tags on Euro banknotes to enhance the security of banknotes. At Financial Cryptography 2003, Juels and Pappu firstly proposed a practical RFID banknote protection scheme (RBPS) by using the optical and electrical (RFID) contacts. A RFID-based note can be tracked by the legal law agency and verified by the merchant. However, some effective attacks on the Juels-Pappu RBPS were subsequently proposed by Avoine. In this thesis, we proposed two different approaches of RBPS. The first approach adds the extra two memory cells of tag. The second approach adds only one memory cell but needs the more operations. The major differences between these two approaches are the tradeoff of the memory size and the operations. Also, our approaches conquer all the attacks on the Juels-Pappu RBPS.
