A Study on the Relationships among Work Values﹐Professional Values, and Job Involvement of Reporters

The thesis mainly studies on the relationship among work values, professional values and job involvement of domestic media reporters. And compare the two kinds of values, which one can predict the job involvement better. The research result can be reference when media organizations recruit reporters. The study discusses the relatedness between job involvement and different aspects of work values, also different aspects of professional values. There were three major hypotheses that has expanded and proposed by reviewing preview literatures: In the first hypothesis, the aspects of work values have obvious correlation with job involvement. In the second hypothesis, the aspects of professional values have obvious correlation with job involvement. In the third hypothesis, the professional values is better predictor on job involvement than work values does. This research conducted questionnaire and its target group focused on domestic media reporters. Data analysis based on 132 usable samples, including newspapers, magazines and webnews media reporters. By statistical analysis, we conclude three major results as follows: First, in reporter’s work values, the “dignity orientation” has obviously positive effect with job involvement; yet the “leisure、healthy and transportation orientation” has obviously negative effect with job involvement. Second, in reporter’s professional values, the “job commitment”、the “public serving” and the “news responsibility” have obviously positive effect with job involvement. Third, the professional values and the work values are almost equal on predicting job involvement. According to the research conclusions, hereunder have some suggestions along with this research, provides media manager or supervisor some references on recruiting and managing the reporters: First, when recruits reporter, suitably take the values into consideration. Second, select the high “dignity orientation” reporter, because he or she may have higher job involvement. Third, when a reporter with high “healthy、leisure and transportation orientation”, make more effort to make sure if he or she has good attitude toward job involvement. Fourth, the media manager shall suitably communicates with reporters, and put more emphasis on the professional ethics of news work.
