The Impacts of Moral Leadership on Employee Effectiveness: Perceived Supportive Organizational Culture as a Moderator

The Chinese used to stress the ethics and morals; nonetheless, the international and national business scandals lead to the employees’ dissatisfaction to the current status and lack of loyalty and deficiency of striving for company. Therefore, the practical and academic domains noticed the importance of leader’s moral concept and inquired the impact of moral leadership. The formation of organizational culture represents the conformity of value system of all members; the organizational culture is the core essence of business. Good organizational culture shapes employees’ values. The supportive culture empowers employees the obedient, open, peaceful and collaborative features, the content of which resembles the transformational leadership. The past studies inquired directly the correlation of leadership and efficiency of employees or leadership style and organizational culture and inquired less the ethics phase and the moderator of supportive organizational culture. Consequently this paper induced moral ideas in the leadership and explored the moderator of moral leadership and supportive organizational culture affecting job satisfaction, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behaviors, expecting to discuss: a. whether moral leadership impacted the job satisfaction, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior of employees and the degree; b. whether the supportive organizational culture and moral leadership interacted and impacted on efficiency of employees (job satisfaction, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior)? The financial services industry is the influential industry affecting national economic artery; as a result, the study adopted financial services industry as the subjects and conducted dyad relationships surveys of directors and subordinates in financial related business. The delivery of questionnaires totaled 600 (300 for directors and 300 for subordinates) and the actual retrieved valid questionnaires totaled 270, i.e. sample data totaled 135 pairs (135 directors and 135 corresponding subordinates). The effective retrieval rate was 45%. The conclusions were attained via proper statistical analysis: 1. Significant impacts of moral leadership on efficiency of employees 1.1 Moral leadership initiated higher degree of job satisfaction of followers 1.2 Moral leadership initiated higher degree of organizational commitment of followers 1.3 Moral leadership initiated higher degree of organizational citizenship behavior of followers 2. Significant interactive effects of moral leadership and supportive organizational culture on efficiency of employees (job satisfaction, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior) 2.1 Significant interactive effect of moral leadership and supportive organizational culture on job satisfaction 2.2 Significant interactive effect of moral leadership and supportive organizational culture on organizational commitment 2.3 Significant interactive effect of moral leadership and supportive organizational culture on organizational citizenship behavior The results indicated the moral leadership demonstrated by leader initiated higher degree of followers’ job satisfaction, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior; moreover, the supportive organizational culture and moral leadership interacted to produce higher job satisfaction, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior and to advance the performance, achieving organizational target. It is said that winds blows and the grass bows. The leadership affects efficiency of employees and shaping of organizational culture also influenced leadership effectiveness. The leader with moral leadership, integrating profession and conscientiousness is qualified to represent the business management belief in new era.
