Popis: | 95 The protagonist in “A Grieving Maid”, Chai Yin-ti, is a typical tragic figure that she married her handicapped husband as a price of changing her social position. After joining in a rich and powerful family, she was in the storm of scrambling for power and profit. Her dream came true as her fortune increases, but she did not know how to enjoy affection from family members. She became a cold and heartless widow that hurt others on one hand and made herself suffered on the other hand. The thesis is divided into six chapter with a aim to explore and analyze the aesthetics in “A Grieving Maid”. The first chapter is an introduction and is divided into three sections: research motivation and purposes, the results of previous researches and research scope and methodology. The second chapter is trying to explore the vicissitudinary life of Chang Ai-ling, the author of “A Grieving Maid”. She did not have close relationship with her parents and younger brothers. She suffered all sorts of hardship after she fell in love with two men in different time. But she did not grieve or regret. She did not like to contact with others and always kept long distance with the real world. The third chapter is exploring “female sub-cultural group”. Women were usually in difficult and humble situation in Chinese traditional society. Since long time ago, they had been constrained as “third party” which they had not been conscious of. They were asked to integrate into the life of her husband’s family, but they are always treated by men as marginized people in the policy-decision of family affairs. The fourth chapter is exploring the duplicate combination of personalities of figures in the novel in which the author of the thesis explored the variance and centralization of personalities of figures in the novel from the view of time and space. Any people may have main and side personalities that will change with time and situations. When a person encounters an important event, he or she may show his or her main characteristics of personality at a specific time and specific occasion. The fifth chapter is exploring the view of moral and value of aesthetics in “A Grieving Maid”: the conflicts and reconciliation between literature and moral, the expression of aesthetics and the appreciation of aesthetics in the views of moral in “A Grieving Maid”.
